Visitor Policies
Trailers
All trailers must check in at the Stable Office/Welcome Center upon arrival.
Coggin Tests
Virginia regulations require all horses participating in events or otherwise congregating to have proof of a negative Coggins test. For shows and events, these documents are shown as the exhibitors check in at the Show Office.
Negative Coggins should be presented to the Stable Office/Welcome Center at check-in in the case of schooling horses or layovers not associated with a show.
Smoking at VHC
Virginia regulations prohibit smoking in Anderson Coliseum, East Complex, and all barns.
Firearms & Fireworks
No firearms or fireworks are permitted.
Theft or Destruction
Anyone involved in theft or destruction of property will be prosecuted.
Vehicles
- Speed limits and traffic signs are strictly enforced.
- Every vehicle operator must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Vehicles are not permitted in Anderson Coliseum, East Complex, or the interior of any barn.
- ATVs are not permitted on the VHC grounds.
- Scooters, bicycles, Segways, or hoverboards operated unsafely will result in a fine.
- Virginia Horse Center reserves the right to restrict the operation of ANY vehicle while on the premises.
Pets
All pets must have current rabies inoculations as prescribed by the state of residency.
All pets must be crated or on a leash while on VHC premises. Owners of unsecured pets will incur a $100 fine.
It is expected that owners will clean up after their pets.
No pets are allowed in the Appomattox Mezzanine under any circumstances except for ADA-registered Service Animals. VHC requests that service dogs be identified as such.
Alcohol
All applicable ABC laws will be followed at events serving alcohol.
Individuals not presenting proof of age when requested will not be served.
Disorderly patrons will be removed from the premises.
Exhibitors
Every horse-occupied stall will have a minimum of one bale of shavings, which may be purchased at the Stable Office/Welcome Center. Sawdust is prohibited.
- Exhibitors, Trainers, and Owners will respect “No Lunging” signs as posted in arenas.
No horses may be stabled in trailers or tied out overnight.
For the health and safety of all, nothing should be attached to or suspended from the electrical conduit in the barns.
No trash or sharps will be disposed of in the manure pits. Sharps should be placed in the appropriately labeled containers in each barn. Non-compliance will result in a $1000 fine assessed to the show.
Exhibitors who empty trash or manure in any of their assigned stalls or any unoccupied stalls will be assessed a $500 fine. Appropriate receptacles are available for both.
Camping
- Campers must register at the Stable Office/Welcome Center.
- Check-in and Check-out times are subject to show dates.
- No gray water is to be dumped on the ground; sewage dump arrangements are made through the Stable Office/Welcome Center.
- Campfires are not permitted.
- Campers must keep their sites clean, utilizing trash receptacles provided.
- Campsites must be left free of any damage. The cost of repairs resulting from negligence will be the camper’s responsibility.
- No tent, camper, RV, or camping equipment shall be left unattended for more than 24 hours without express written permission from the Stable Office/Welcome Center.
- VHC management reserves the right to remove from the premises any camper or visitor who violates these rules.
- The Virginia Horse Center shall be held harmless against all claims, costs, losses, or liability of every nature and kind asserted against or incurred by campers, arising or resulting in any respect from the camper’s occupancy and use of premises and/or visitor and visitor’s use of premises.
