Stable Office Support
Job Purpose:
Individuals must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required for this position.
- Must be detail-oriented

- Self-starter with an outgoing personality.
Assists with stable office operations by taking reservations and payments for shavings, ice, stalls, golf carts, campers, etc.
Ensure that all customers receive timely accommodations for their needs.
Status: Non-Exempt / Full/Part-time position
Starting Hourly Rate: $16.00
Direct Report: Stable Office Manager
Minimum Skills:
- Excellent communication skills and customer service with staff, managers, and exhibitors.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate event demands
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School diploma
- One to three years in an office setting and previous customer service experience and hospitality a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office computer programs with experience and willingness to learn any unique point of sale programs (RMS).
Key Areas of Responsibility – Stable Office
- Assist with all aspects of the Stable Office
- Be reliable and dependent and help with other duties when needed
- Be kind and courteous to all customers and visitors
- Respond to general inquiries and help to problem-solve issues as they arise with a stable office supervisor
- Coordinate with barn crew to ensure prompt delivery of feed & bedding orders
- Coordinate camper reservations and site assignments and collect payments
- Coordinate golf cart reservations and assignments and collect payments
- Coordinate vendor reservations and site assignments and collect payments
- Track sales of feed & bedding to help create an accurate inventory
- Answer phone calls and e-mails regarding reservations, look up orders and assist patrons with any adjustments needed.
- Provide a high level of professional and courteous service.
- Support all Virginia Horse Center staff, assisting as needed to provide exceptional customer service.
- Contribute to a work environment that encourages teamwork and respect for coworkers.
Key Areas of Responsibility – Other
- Work with members of the Horse Center’s staff and/or outside contractors on the health and well-being of the Center.
- Assist CFO and CEO with annual budget priorities.
- Maintains a safe working environment within and around areas associated with employee work environment.
- Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned
- Assist guests/regular public with directions or general information.

Grounds and Barn Crew
Job Purpose:
The Grounds/Barn crew ensures a positive overall impression of the Virginia Horse Center and provides the necessary service to ensure the facility is manicured and ready for shows. This group maintains the Virginia Horse Center grounds daily.
Grounds/Barn crew must be extremely thorough in completing their duties, which ensures clean facilities for guests and exhibitors.
Status: Non-Exempt / Full-time seasonal position
Reports to: Barn/Grounds Crew Supervisor
Starting Hourly Rate: $15.00
Minimum Skills:
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds (hay and shavings orders)
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Previous experience in a similar field, including operating mowers, forklifts, and tractors
- Ability to work outdoors regardless of outdoor weather conditions
- Ability to lift, bend, twist, and stand for long periods of time.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience operating tractor, skid-steer, bobcat, and water truck
- High School Diploma or GED
Key Areas of Responsibility – Barn Crew
- Clean stalls, wash racks, and other grounds areas
- Deliver shavings and hay to exhibitors before and during events
- Maintain the grounds, including dragging and watering arenas
- Collect trash and sweep in and around the barns
- Use equipment such as skid-steers, tractors, golf carts, etc. during barn clean-up
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas
- Other duties as assigned by Management
Key Areas of Responsibility – Grounds Crew
- Operate various types of equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors, weed trimmers, etc.
- Maintain grounds as needed, including lawn care, weed control, and trimming.
- Collect trash and sweep in and around the barns.
- Set up and take down jumps and fence rails
- Complete special event set up and tear down
- Drag and water facility as needed
- Remove snow
Key Areas of Responsibility – Other
- Serve as a point person within the organization for customer service.
- Work with members of the Horse Center’s staff and/or outside contractors on the well-being of the Center.
- Maintain a safe working environment within and around areas associated with employee work environment.
- Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Food and Beverage Concessions/Catering Worker
Job Purpose:
Provide friendly, courteous service to all customers. Take customer orders and accurately enter into a point-of-sale system. Ensure that customer orders are complete and accurate when served.
Assist with producing all food products, ensuring proper cost control, effective safety and sanitation procedures, and the highest quality standards in timing, taste, and presentation. Ensure a commitment to creating an environment that consistently meets or exceeds the expectations of our patrons.
Assist with the successful execution of all VHCF contracted catering events. Support the Food & Beverage Manager with all stages of each event’s execution and follow up to ensure client satisfaction.
Status: Non-Exempt / Full and Part-time seasonal position
Reports to: Food & Beverage Concession/Catering Manager/Supervisor
Starting Hourly Rate: $16.00
Supervisory Responsibilities: Food and Beverage Concessions
Minimum Skills:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Industry-related post-secondary training
- ServSafe Certification
- Ability to use a point-of-sale system with accuracy
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma
- One to three years experience in a restaurant and/or with catered events
- Ability to work for long periods in a fast-paced environment
Key Areas of Responsibility – Concessions
- Participates in daily tasks such as food preparation, stocking supplies, taking inventory, cleaning, operating the register, order placement, and resetting tables.
- Adheres to guidelines set forth by Food & Beverage Management and ABC Board
- Maintain standard recipes to ensure consistency and quality of food.
- Help create innovative and appealing menus that reflect culinary trends and meet customer preferences.
- Oversee food preparation and cooking processes to maintain high standards of taste and presentation and act as quality control for outgoing products.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards and health department regulations.
- Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate new techniques and ingredients into menu offerings.
- Foster a positive work environment encouraging teamwork, creativity, and professional growth.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints promptly and courteously.
- Provide two-way communication and nurture an ownership environment emphasizing motivation and teamwork.
- Ensure collaboration with management to achieve financial targets and contribute to the Virginia Horse Center Foundation’s overall success.
Key Areas of Responsibility – Food and Beverage Catering
- Ensures guests always receive friendly, courteous service.
- Help to facilitate catering events with F&B staff from planning to execution
- Arrange tables and decorations.
- Arrange buffet tables with food, beverage, and service items according to standards.
- Serve food and beverages to guests.
- Thoroughly cleans location after event.
