The Lexington Spring Premiere is Underway!

As the first installment of the Virginia Festival of Champions, the shows are recognized by the NCHJA, VHSA, MHSA and SWVHJA, Take2 Thoroughbred, and include qualifying classes for the Virginia Hunter Championships presented by Markel, and the Amy Y. Reistrup Equitation Challenge.

It will be an action-packed week, so stay tuned for all the daily highlights. The schedule, prize list and entries are all available online. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the Virginia Horse Center!


THE MARKEL WELCOME PARTY!

Markel sponsors the Virginia Festival of Champions and will sponsor the Welcome party tomorrow afternoon in the Stave Mill Pavilion during the $10,000 Welcome Jumper Classic. Look for Markel representative Reynolds Martin to discuss your insurance needs and pick up a complimentary drink ticket!

Markel will also provide complimentary snacks during the Markel Welcome Party, including some Chick-fil-A.

TRIPLE CROWN DERBY DAY • Friday, April 26

Join us for Triple Crown Derby Day this Friday in the Sandy Gerald Ring.

Derby heights range from 2’3”-2’6” and 2’9”-3’, and each class offers $1,000 in prize money. The $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, presented by the Heisley Family Foundation, will kick off the Triple Crown Derby Day and will also award the EMO Leading Amateur Rider and the Hollins University Leading Junior Rider Award.

Friday Night • Musical Freestyle Equitation Challenge

Join us for Friday night’s popular Musical Freestyle Equitation Challenge in the Anderson Coliseum!

Open to all Amateur and Junior riders. This is a freestyle, take-your-own-line competition set to music. Each rider will have 2.5 minutes (running over 2.5 minutes will be penalized) to show off their best equitation skills to the music they choose (clean versions only in MP3 format and must be turned in along with bio by Thursday 5:00 PM). The winning trainer will receive $1,000, the second-place trainer will receive $750, and the third-place trainer will receive $250. 

The winning rider receives a beautiful Show Ribbon Wreaths award and a $50 gift certificate to Show Ribbon Wreaths!
